Scorecard builder

One scorecard, so every interviewer rates the same things.

My Trade Talent's scorecard builder turns any of 56 commercial trades roles into a printable interview scorecard: the role's three technical questions and three strong-candidate signals rated on the same 1 to 4 scale, plus the credentials to verify before an offer.

Pick the trade and role, add names if you like, and print or save it as a PDF. Nothing you type leaves your browser.

Questions

About the scorecard.

What should be on a hiring scorecard for a skilled trades role?

My Trade Talent's scorecard builder turns any of 56 commercial trades roles into a printable interview scorecard: the role's three technical questions and three strong-candidate signals rated on the same 1 to 4 scale, plus the credentials to verify before an offer. Rating every candidate on the same written criteria is what lets two interviewers compare notes, and it keeps the decision on the work rather than on who interviewed best.

What should be on a hiring scorecard for a construction superintendent?

The scorecard builder rates a construction superintendent on three technical questions, starting with "You are three weeks behind at the halfway point. Walk me through the recovery plan.", and on three signals: Talks in sequence and constraint rather than trades and tasks; Has run inspections and closeout, not just the productive middle of a job; Can describe recovering a slipped schedule with specifics. It also lists OSHA 30 to verify before the offer.

What do the 1 to 4 ratings mean?

1 means no evidence of the criterion in the interview, 2 some evidence but not enough for the seat, 3 clear evidence that meets the seat, and 4 strong evidence beyond it. Write the evidence in the notes column, not just the number.

Is anything I type sent to My Trade Talent?

No. The scorecard is built in your browser. Candidate and interviewer names stay on your device and are never sent anywhere.

The questions and signals come from the interview question bank; the same role's trade kit has its pay band and offer risks.

Trade Talk A monthly hiring brief for commercial trades employers

What changed in your trade this month, and what to do about it.

One email a month, and only one. We write a separate issue for every trade we recruit in, so you get yours - not a round-up with your trade buried in paragraph nine. Every issue is written for the person actually doing the hiring.

  • Where wages moved in your trade, by market, and what that does to your next offer
  • How long roles like yours are taking to fill, and where it is getting worse
  • Interview and screening tactics that are landing candidates this month
  • What contractors competing for the same people are doing differently

Built on federal wage data, our own closed searches, and what we hear on the desk every week. Written for employers, not candidates. No pitch, no filler, one click to leave.

Pick your trade. That is the one issue you get, once a month.

One email a month. Your trade and your address, nothing else - we do not sell either, and you can unsubscribe from the bottom of any issue. Read this month's issue for your trade first →
