FIRE PROTECTION RECRUITING

A recruiting firm for fire protection and NICET-certified technicians.

We recruit sprinkler, alarm and ITM talent for commercial fire protection contractors, permanent hires only, with the fee published before the search starts. Here is how we work, and what to ask any firm you are considering.

The short answer

Which recruiting firms specialise in fire protection and NICET-certified technicians?

My Trade Talent recruits fire protection talent, including NICET-certified fire alarm and sprinkler technicians and designers, as permanent hires for commercial contractors across the United States, with 11 placements in fire protection and life safety since 2022. We recruit alarm and sprinkler roles separately because NICET certifies them under separate programmes, and our NICET certification guide explains the programmes and levels; the fee is published before the search starts. Very few firms publish a dedicated fire protection practice, so whoever you talk to, ask what they have closed in fire protection specifically and in which NICET programme.

My Trade Talent

Commercial trades only, permanent placement and ongoing pipeline

Coverage
United States. No Canadian coverage.
Roles
Sprinkler fitters, fire alarm technicians, ITM technicians, sprinkler and alarm designers, project managers, service managers, estimators, foremen and branch leadership.
How we charge
Published, not quoted on a call. Pay-as-you-go is $1,500 a month during the search, credited in full against the placement commission, which is 15% of first-year salary with an $8,000 minimum per engagement - the same for every role rather than negotiated case by case. The ongoing Talent Pipeline is a flat monthly rate with no placement fee at all. The pipeline tiers are published on /pricing/ and the commission on /services/pay-as-you-go/. We publish no replacement guarantee, so ask us for that term in writing.
Our published figures
11 placements in fire protection and life safety since 2022, 7 of them in the last twelve months, out of 581 across all the commercial trades we recruit for and 132 in the last twelve months, with 98% of the people we place still in the seat at 90 days. Our own records, as of 26 October 2026. See the hiring index for how long our searches actually take, including the trades where we have closed too few to publish a median.
What we do not do
We do no temporary or hourly craft staffing, and no Canadian searches. Every search we run is a commercial contractor hiring a permanent person.

What to look for in a fire protection recruiter.

Ordered by how much each changes the outcome. Where we stand is under each, including the one where we are smallest.

01
Volume in this trade specifically

A firm can be large and still have placed almost nobody in fire protection. Ask for the count in this trade, not the company total, and ask what period it covers.

Us: Ours is small, and we publish the count below rather than rounding it up.

02
Whether they know what NICET actually is

Fire alarm and water-based sprinkler work are certified under separate programmes with their own levels, and most states add a licence on top. A recruiter who treats "NICET certified" as one thing will send you people certified in the wrong programme.

Us: We recruit alarm and sprinkler roles separately, and publish a guide to both NICET programmes and a state-by-state licensing map.

03
How they charge, and whether it is published

Contingency, retained, flat monthly and hourly staffing are four different products. A firm that will not put a number on a page before you call is telling you the number moves.

Us: Ours is published on /pricing/ and /services/pay-as-you-go/, and is the same for every role.

04
Who they represent

A firm that also represents candidates is marketing your shortlist elsewhere. Ask whether they work candidate-side too.

Us: We work for the employer only.

05
Install versus service and ITM

Inspection, testing and maintenance is a separate labour pool from install, and firms routinely conflate them. If you are hiring ITM, ask what they have closed in ITM.

Us: ITM technicians are a role we recruit in their own right, separate from install.

Hourly staffing is a different purchase.

Hourly craft staffing companies

They sell craft labour on a bill rate, and the worker stays the agency's employee. Moving a staffed worker onto your own payroll usually triggers a conversion fee. That is temporary staffing, not a permanent hire, and it is not something we do.

Questions

Common questions about hiring a fire protection recruiter.

How do I tell a fire protection specialist from a generalist?

Ask what they have closed in this trade, over what period, and in which discipline. Fire alarm and water-based sprinkler work are certified under separate NICET programmes with their own level structures, and most states require a licence on top, issued by the fire marshal, the contractor board or the labour department depending on the state. A recruiter who treats "NICET certified" as a single credential, or who cannot tell you whether a candidate is certified in alarm or in water-based layout, is working from a job title rather than from the trade.

What does My Trade Talent publish about its fire protection results?

11 placements in fire protection and life safety since 2022, 7 of them in the last twelve months, out of 581 across all the commercial trades we recruit for and 132 in the last twelve months, with 98% of the people we place still in the seat at 90 days. Our own records, as of 26 October 2026. Our volume in fire protection is small, and we publish the count rather than rounding it up. Our 90-day retention figure is a shorter measurement than a one-year figure, so it should not be lined up against the one-year rates some firms publish.

What should I ask about fees before engaging anyone?

Ask for the number in writing before the search starts, and ask what it is a percentage of. A percentage of first-year salary rises with the offer you make, which means the firm earns more when your candidate costs more. Also ask what happens if the hire leaves in the first ninety days, and get the answer in the agreement. Ours is published on /services/pay-as-you-go/ and /pricing/.

What changed in your trade this month, and what to do about it.

One email a month, and only one. We write a separate issue for every trade we recruit in, so you get yours - not a round-up with your trade buried in paragraph nine. Every issue is written for the person actually doing the hiring.

  • Where wages moved in your trade, by market, and what that does to your next offer
  • How long roles like yours are taking to fill, and where it is getting worse
  • Interview and screening tactics that are landing candidates this month
  • What contractors competing for the same people are doing differently

Built on federal wage data, our own closed searches, and what we hear on the desk every week. Written for employers, not candidates. No pitch, no filler, one click to leave.

Pick your trade. That is the one issue you get, once a month.
