Physical Security licensing in Kentucky.

Kentucky does not license burglar alarm, CCTV or access control installers. The Department of Housing, Buildings and Construction licenses plumbers, electricians, boiler contractors, sprinkler and fire alarm contractors and building inspectors, which means the same crew needs a state license for fire alarm work and needs none specific to security systems. Electrical licensing runs under KRS Chapter 227A with rules at 815 KAR Chapter 35, and KRS 227A.030 contains a narrow carve-out for low voltage power limited installations separated from the power source by a Class 2 or Class 3 transformer when performed by specified licensed trades. For a commercial security hire, confirm the fire alarm contractor license if fire alarm is in scope, confirm an electrical license if line voltage is in scope, and otherwise check local permit requirements. The Louisville metro crosses a state line, so check the rules in the neighboring state too for crews that work on both sides.

Licensing authority: Kentucky Department of Housing, Buildings and Construction (electrical licensing under KRS Chapter 227A and 815 KAR Chapter 35, and fire alarm contractor licensing); no burglar alarm or security installer license. Confirm current rules with the agency.
