The eight metros that pay it best.
| Metro | Median | vs national | Employed | Concentration |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Reno, NV | $58,910 | +30% | 160 | 0.86× |
| Seattle, WA | $58,380 | +29% | 670 | 0.49× |
| San Francisco, CA | $53,380 | +18% | 1,210 | 0.77× |
| San Jose, CA | $53,050 | +17% | 590 | 0.79× |
| Denver, CO | $50,110 | +11% | 570 | 0.54× |
| New York, NY | $49,940 | +10% | 4,380 | 0.70× |
| Bridgeport, CT | $49,750 | +10% | 180 | 0.68× |
| Spokane, WA | $49,550 | +10% | 200 | 1.21× |
Concentration is the location quotient: 1.00× is the national rate, 1.40× means the metro has 40% more of these workers per job than the country as a whole.
The same job title pays $58,910 in Reno and $30,330 in El Paso - $28,580 a year apart. That is across the 98 of our 100 metros where BLS publishes a median for it; in the other 2 the local sample is too small to publish, which is its own signal about how many of these people are around.
