Insulation licensing in Kentucky.

Kentucky does not license general or insulation contractors at state level, and the Department of Housing, Buildings and Construction covers only plumbing, electrical, boiler, sprinkler and fire alarm work plus building inspectors. Local licensing fills part of the gap, and in Louisville Metro the Construction Review office issues Building Type A and B, HVAC, wrecking and similar licenses, but there is no insulation category. The credential that matters for insulation is asbestos accreditation from the Division for Air Quality, which accredits abatement workers and supervisors as well as inspectors, management planners and project designers under 401 KAR 58:005, and the accreditation certificate must be current and physically present during the work. The Louisville metro crosses a state line, so check the rules in the neighboring state too for crews that work on both sides.

Licensing authority: No state contractor license; the Department of Housing, Buildings and Construction licenses plumbers, electricians, boiler, sprinkler and fire alarm contractors and building inspectors. The Energy and Environment Cabinet, Division for Air Quality, accredits asbestos personnel under 401 KAR 58:005. Confirm current rules with the agency.
