Insulation licensing in Wisconsin.

Wisconsin's Dwelling Contractor and Dwelling Contractor Qualifier credentials from DSPS are tied to building permits for one and two family dwellings, so they do not cover commercial insulation work, and the state has no commercial insulation contractor license. The substantive credential for insulation is asbestos certification from the Department of Health Services, which requires a person or group to be certified to perform, oversee or advertise asbestos work, issues a two-year Asbestos Company certification and a narrower Exterior Asbestos Company certification, and certifies individuals by discipline, all under Wis. Admin. Code ch. DHS 159. Confirm current company certification through the DHS asbestos company lookup and check individual certifications for the crew. The same state rules apply in Madison, so candidates licensed there can work in Milwaukee without re-qualifying.

Licensing authority: Wisconsin Department of Safety and Professional Services for Dwelling Contractor, one and two family dwellings only. Wisconsin Department of Health Services certifies asbestos companies and individuals under DHS 159. Confirm current rules with the agency.
