Commercial Cleaning & FM licensing in Louisiana.

Louisiana does not license janitorial contracting, but it does license mould remediation, and the classification is written broadly enough to catch work cleaning crews are asked to do: it covers removing, cleaning, disinfecting, demolishing or otherwise treating mould-contaminated materials that were not deliberately grown at the site, including preventive measures. A licence in that classification is required once the value of the work exceeds $7,500, and the contractor must complete 24 hours of board-approved training in mould remediation and assessment. Water-damage cleanup that becomes mould cleanup above that figure is the usual trigger, so decide in advance whether you decline such work or carry the classification. The same state rules apply in Baton Rouge, so candidates licensed there can work in New Orleans without re-qualifying.

Licensing authority: Louisiana State Licensing Board for Contractors. Confirm current rules with the agency.

Nearby markets competing for New Orleans talent.

The closest metro we cover is Baton Rouge, about 75 miles away, with roughly 5,300 janitors and cleaners (0.9 times New Orleans's 6,070). Pensacola pays the most nearby, a $32,010 median, 7% above New Orleans. That is the number any New Orleans offer is competing with when experienced people weigh a move. New Orleans is the largest market for this work in the region, so nearby metros tend to recruit from here rather than the other way round.
