Offer calculator

See the whole offer, not just the base.

My Trade Talent's offer calculator starts from a commercial trades role's pay band, labelled with its source, and adds the overtime, on-call pay, truck, per diem, bonus and benefits you enter, so you can see the total annual compensation of an offer before you make it.

Your figures stay in your browser. The calculator adds them up; it does not tell you what to pay.

Questions

About the offer calculator.

How do I calculate total compensation for a skilled trades job offer?

Add the base pay, the expected overtime at its rate, on-call pay, the yearly value of a take-home truck and fuel, per diem, any tool allowance and bonus, and the employer-paid cost of benefits. My Trade Talent's offer calculator starts from a commercial trades role's pay band, labelled with its source, and adds the overtime, on-call pay, truck, per diem, bonus and benefits you enter, so you can see the total annual compensation of an offer before you make it.

What should a trades job offer include besides base pay?

The parts the calculator asks for: overtime, on-call pay, a take-home truck and fuel, per diem for travel work, a tool allowance, a bonus and benefits. Which of them apply depends on the seat; the calculator totals only the ones you enter.

Does the calculator tell me what to pay?

No. It shows the role's published band and where your base pay sits against it, and it totals your own figures. It makes no salary recommendation and does not predict what a candidate will accept.

Where does the pay band come from?

From the same role list as the salary calculator. Most roles carry a My Trade Talent mid-experience band built from our own engagement history; roles in trades where we have not closed enough searches carry the federal BLS 10th to 90th percentile spread instead, national and unadjusted. Each result says which it is.

What can make a skilled trades candidate back out after accepting an offer?

It depends on the trade, which is why the calculator lists the offer risks for the trade you pick, each with a source. Three from the data: The 608 card the candidate cannot produce; A prohibited Clearinghouse status now takes the licence too; Writing NICET II without naming the program.

To see the band by experience level and region, use the salary calculator. To check the credentials the offer depends on, use the credential check.

Trade Talk A monthly hiring brief for commercial trades employers

What changed in your trade this month, and what to do about it.

One email a month, and only one. We write a separate issue for every trade we recruit in, so you get yours - not a round-up with your trade buried in paragraph nine. Every issue is written for the person actually doing the hiring.

  • Where wages moved in your trade, by market, and what that does to your next offer
  • How long roles like yours are taking to fill, and where it is getting worse
  • Interview and screening tactics that are landing candidates this month
  • What contractors competing for the same people are doing differently

Built on federal wage data, our own closed searches, and what we hear on the desk every week. Written for employers, not candidates. No pitch, no filler, one click to leave.

Pick your trade. That is the one issue you get, once a month.

One email a month. Your trade and your address, nothing else - we do not sell either, and you can unsubscribe from the bottom of any issue. Read this month's issue for your trade first →
